- allenmExplorerI was going north on I-75 from Florida Saturday March 12th. Just south of Forsyth the traffic came to a crawl at 4pm. By crawl I mean it took an hour to go 3 miles.
Finally got off and stayed at Forsyth KOA. I could see I-75 from the campground. About midnight the traffic was moving better. We got up at 3am and sailed through downtown Atlanta.
The problem was one of the northbound lanes was closed at Forsyth, but that was enough to jam traffic up for about 10 miles. It looks like a long-term road project. - Bird_FreakExplorer II27 is a good hwy and mostly 4 lane. You can pick it up off I85 south of Atl. run north to Rome and hwy 53 to Calhoun. 50 miles north of ATL.

It will add about 100 miles to your drive, but you could drive to Montgomery, AL, then north on I-85 to Nashville, TN. then east on I-40 to Cookeville, TN. then south on TN-111 to Sparta.
Maybe if you went through Atlanta at 3AM, traffic might not be so bad, but I wouldn't count on it.
This should be I-65 to Nashville.
Take I-65 to TN SR840, a few miles south of Franklin. That will take you directly to I-40, then the exit for Sparta. That route will take you through Birmingham but avoid Nashville & Atlanta. - jaycocamprsExplorerUS-431 to Gadsden AL. I-59 to I-24 west. I-24 west to exit 155. TN-28 to TN-111

I figure if they can pull a 53' trailer on it, I can pull my 40' FW. Plus the 2015 Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas shows US 27 as a viable route to bypass ATL.
