Best route to Mono Lake from Las Vegas for newbie

We are taking our new 30 foot TT out for the first time, going from Las Vegas to Mono Lake, then to Truckee, CA. What is the best route for a newbie trailer driver? US 6 from Tonopah to 120 to 395 or go further to Hawthorne and take 359? Thank you in advance.

    During the week, traffic is stopped on 359 while they blow up old ordnance. Waits vary.

    NV 359 is good hwy until you cross into CA then CA 167 was in poor condition. This was 2 or 3 years ago, decided not to take it again. Another route 15 to Barstow then 40 to 395. Stop in Lone Pine and visit the Movie Museum then drive you truck up to Alabama hills where lots of movies were made. Dick

    Thank you dkreuzen! We thought it might be a bit easier for our first long trip with 50 feet between truck and TT!

    I'd fuel up in Tonopah. None between there and Benton. Expensive in Lee Vining.
