If you are staying at Cherry Hill..come out of the c/g and turn left and go up to 95 north...to 695 north to 83 north up to Harrisburg to 81...81 east to 78 east into NJ then 287 north to Sufferin,NY...take 87 north..toll...to 84 east in Newburgh,NY and cross Hudson River there...less traffic and cheaper toll...also the roads are better than going to Scranton...and the traffic better that 95 in NYC and Ct...
Cross Ct on 84 to Sturbridge,Mass and get 90 east to Boston.....
Not sure where you're staying..but 90 take right into Boston...Chuck - BillMFlExplorerCollege park is where Cherryhill is. Best location near DC. You can take the subway right to the Capital area. The office will give you the info. The Garden State is a nice drive anytime other than am or pm rush hour but it is a toll road. There are routes to Maine that greatly reduce tolls if you are interested.
- Storm_12ExplorerI am traveling from a camp ground in college park, Maryland
- Storm_12ExplorerI will be staying in a camp ground in college park, Maryland. Outside of DC.
How busy can the garden state parkway be after rush hour? - BillMFlExplorerThe GW and cross bronx is the road to hell. And I95 thru Conn. isn't much better. The Tap Zee to 684 or 287 to 87 is way better during mid day non rush hour. I like I78 to the Tap. I81 to I84 takes you up and down the Appalachin ridges. I78 heads east before the first mountains and is smooth sailing. There are options to head north from 78 before the Tap. You can read about some in my post here about my route from Fla to Maine. And I presume you will be staying at Cherry Hill near DC?

Timing is important on the Tappan Zee, either do it early(before 7AM)or after rush hour.
The above quoted post is spot on. The Tappen Zee is better on its worst day that the George Washington ever is. Coming from your direction, to get to the Tappen Zee you are probably best off taking the New Jersey Turnpike to the Garden State Parkway. At the end of the GSP you merge onto I-87S which takes you across the bridge. - Aadkins101ExplorerAlthough longer mileage-wise, the most pleasant route to Boston is to take Route 81 to Scranton, Pa - then 1-84 through Newburgh, NY, over the Hudson River, continue on 1-84 to Hartford, Ct to 1-90 and on to Boston. No tolls until you get to I90, except for the bridge over the Hudson. Pretty decent roads and definitely not as much traffic. We do it every year.
- demoonExplorerAny time of day, the GWB can be a roll of the dice. All it takes is one minor accident. I have gotten caught in gridlock at 2 in the morning. As mentioned above, it is the shortest route, and if there were no traffic issues, it is the fastest. I just don't bother taking the chance.
