Beware! US 2...

....between Shelby, MT and Chester, MT, near Galata.

10+ miles of bare dirt and gravel, steep dropoff on shoulders, one-lane delays (2) with traffic lights, and generally a huge, bone-jarring, down to 5 mph MESS.

It appears that the road is being widened to 4 lanes, for some mysterious reason. But the original road surface is GONE.

Not much equipment working---at the current rate, I don't see how it will get done this summer.

Galata East and West between Shelby and Chester.

Reconstruction work in progress. Loads over 14-feet wide could experience substantial delays. Please consider an alternate route. Motorcycles and bicyclists should also consider an alternate route.

EXPECT: Reconstruction activities; Delays up to 15 minutes; Loose Gravel; Reduced Speeds of 35 MPH; Pilot Cars; Gravel Surface; Single Lane Traffic; Traffic Control by Signal Lights; Motorcycles Consider Alt Route.

No big deal, no different than Pa. signs saying road work next 32 mi., cones and barrels set up, reduced speed limit, and no work being done, not even a worker in site, or Virginia that blocks of a lane for 10 mi for 2 years, to do a 6 month job. ;)
  • Few years back, I-90 in Montana was the same way for a 25 mile stretch. Was quite interesting.
  • I have often said that I should have gotten into the cone and barrel business, there seems to be no end sales.
