OK headed back to AK next week. This year we are in our MH and the shower stall next to the bedroom has a skylight that kindly offers light whether we want it or not .We've been trying to skull out a way to black out the skylight to make sure the BR remains dark during my required beauty recovery and rest hours.We've been thinking maybe aluminum foil taped to the skylight from below, but not sure it will hold. Any experiences, recommendations or ideas on turning the switch off on the sun in such situations??? (Cutting the skylight out with a chain saw and nailing surplus plywood over the hole has already been tendered as a suggestion and the DW rejected the suggestion- go figure??

I have been in used TT's where the owners have painted the thing black. I don't recommend that. how about taping a black plastic trash bag and see if that works for you.

Do the same as done for the vents in RVs using a piece of foam covered with cloth material. It just pushes into place and stays there until you pull it back out. We made one our self to cover the bath skylight and it works well and keeps the cold and heat out too when needed.Now if I can just come up with something to block out the light for the window in the entry door. Oh well that another post.

The simple solution for me was to use an eye mask. I got so used to it that I now use it at home and have found that I sleep much better. At first you feel silly and might find it to take a short time to get used to having something on you head like that, but it certainly works for me. Coupled with using earplugs, I am in my own little world.

I pulled the inside cover out and covered it with two layers of the silver bubble car window shades and then reinstalled. Not only does it prevent light from entering but helps reduce the heat load.

Ok, This is just a thought but,

Maybe a Roller type shade mounted inside the opening & secured, or maybe even on the outside of the opening. This would still allow for light when needed.

My wife did the same as Calicajun. Bought a piece of foam rubber about 4 inches thick and about 2 inches wider on each side and then encased it in a cotton material cover. It is squeezd together and inserted in the opening. It is big enough that it never falls out and keeps out the sun and heat and cold and light. It is like those 9 X 9 ones that fit in the bathroom ceiling. Good Luck.

All great ideas and suggestions! Am pondering this. Keep 'em coming!

I am convinced now I can leave the chain saw in the garage and even better leave the used plywood covering hole in the floorboard of the 2nd hand pulpwood truck where it currently is being used. No need to pull that plywood out of the floorboard to cover a hole I would have cut in the roof of the MH to make it dark!

I'm leaning towards the foam rubber, but still think I need a way to secure it in a steamy shower. With the curvature of the skylight I wonder how its going to hold up in there.
