Black tank lights

I have a 2014 Itasca sunstar that all of a sudden the tank lights want to stay on. Sometimes 2, sometimes 3 sometimes all 4. I've emptied and used the flush connection and still they stay on. Could this be electrical? If not what is a sure fire way to correct this problem?

check this site out for replacing those tank idiot lights.
  • I've been working with rid-x for motorhomes and it seems to be cleaning and keeping the sensors clean in my black tank
  • It isn't the sensors, it's crudded up tank walls that fool the sensors. This is true for both types of sensors - those that protrude through the tank walls into the tank and those that are non-contact and are eternal on the outside of the tank wall.
Winnebago went standard with the non-contact sensor system in 2005 and although that system works better than the old style, crudded up tank walls will still fool the sensors.
As a full timer I never found anything that worked and I tried all the stuff people swear works and nothing did.
I even made an adapter for my SILs pressure washer that sprayed sideways so I could clean the tank walls through the toilet opening. That worked for a while but with 24/7 use the walls crudded up again and the sensors started giving false readings again.
I ended up just marking the calendar when I dumped and dumping the tank again in 10 days.

Yep, that works for me. I gave up on the sensors long ago.
  • I used to get a full hookup site every third night or so. that was primarily for the grey tank, black lasted longer.

  • I've had the same problem, it's very common.Bought an rv swivel stick from camping world, swivel head rinses the side of the tank so far has worked every time. .http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/rv-flexible-swivel-stik/15716

    good luck

  • For what it's worth, I regularly and frequently use the black tank flush to keep the black tank as clean as possible. So far with a 5th wheel and 2 motorhomes, I've managed to keep them working. I carry a short dedicated hose and when I flush the black tank, hook the washing hose up and let her rip. I also will close the drain valve while flushing, but I will stand right there not wander off and drink a beer. The extra volume of water helps flush out stuff.
  • Some folks are just hard headed and do not want to invest on a enzyme type chemical for the black and gray tanks. The problem you are experiencing is crud that builds up inside the tanks and the sensors stop working. Enzyme that I use is called Happy Camper and the lights for my tanks have worked perfect for thirteen years. You can get it through the internet on Amazon.
