A simple solution is to just cut down a heavy duty black plastic bag and tape it over the skylight.
For the bedroom windows we bought some heavy black cloth and sewed an opening at the top to shirr onto a spring-tension rod. They were very easy to snap out during the day and in at night. Not pretty but then, you're sleeping.
We, too, need it very dark in order to sleep. Good luck!
