Looks like we won't be able to drive to Salmon glacier with our rental RV. As far as I know the rental insurance states we can't go offroad, which means no dirt roads :( ...
I sure hope that isn't what they mean, since on our trip last year we spent a good percentage of our time on "dirt roads", roads undergoing contruction and "formerly paved roads" that were state, Provencal highways and the Alaska Highway. I would think the contract means no driving across country without the benefit of a road. Like taking off through a meadow or logging trail.
Scottiemom and I joke that rental RV's can go "anywhere" especially places we'd never attempt to reach with one of ours.
I once heard there are specific roads where rental RV's are not allowed to go. I remember the Dalton Highway was one, and also the road to Wrangell-St. Elias. We'll give it some more thought, I guess, probably depending on road conditions too. The last pictures make it look much more "driveable". We've certainly taken rentals over parts of roads which were either gravel or dry dirt roads (the non-sandy ones, not sure if you have a term for that in English) because road construction left them unpaved. That in itself isn't a problem in my understanding.
