I've crossed the border many times, both Canada and Mexico, returning to the US I have never been treated with anything less than courtesy. Last month I returned to Laredo after a month in Mexico. I greeted the Customs Officer with a big "howdy", considering this was Texas. He laughed and responded, "Howdy, partner". He asked about our trip, a few questions about what we were bringing back, and he let us proceed.
