Yes, it's much better than the east side route. And there's a casino along the way.
What is the name of the Casino? If it is the one I remember the price of Fuel is very Low compared to either North or South!
Red Earth Casino - Shellback1ExplorerI believe the casino is Red Earth.

It can get dangerously windy between Palm Springs and Beaumont, as has been pointed out. Best bet to get to Hemet from 10 is 79 in Beaumont.
- Shellback1ExplorerThanks I think I'll stay on 86.
- IAMICHABODExplorer IIAs they said, easy route and boring...and sometimes very windy from Indio to past Beaumont.
For more scenery and adventure you could take HWY 78 just past Westmorland up over the hill past Julian to Escondido then north on I 15 to Hemet. Done that many times just to get out of the boredom of the 100s of trips past the Salton Sea. - Roy_LynneExplorerI've done them both a number of times and usually take 111 but we like to bird and there are some great places to stop. Both are pretty boring
- Shellback1ExplorerThanks mockturtle, good to know.
- mockturtleExplorer IIThere is also a rest area with a sewer dump near Calipatria.
