- ShroomerExplorera little followup on my last post re: hiway 152, as you are located in Arizona you know already how to drive in windy areas so the drive up Pacheco Pass wont bother you much with the unexpected gusty side winds around the San Luis Lake area, going down the west side keep your speed below 55-60 and you'll be OK. Casa De Fruita on 152 sells some really good dried fruit (mostly local) - there is also a CG there, sometimes can be busy when there is an event happening - if you decide to stay at the Mission farms CG, I should mention it's also withing walking distance to the old Mission and downtown.
- ShroomerExplorerJT is correct, about a mile or thereabouts west of Casa de Fruita in 152, get in the left lane to exit onto 156 toward Hollister and SJB, There is a nice CG in SJB named Mission farms CG, it isn't advertised with Good Sam or Woodalls but is located in a nicely wooded park - When you get to the stop light intersection at SJB, take a left turn and go about a couple blocks and turn left again, mostly long termers but have spaces for overnighters too - it's walking distance to groceries - PO - Pizza and a really good Coffee shop (Vertigo) named after the famous Hitchcock movie of that name, There are a couple other CG's within 5 miles of SJB, Betabel probably the best but pricey.
I live in the area and enjoy my coffee at Vertigo frequently. - BillinwoodlandExplorer

How's the drive westbound on CA-152 between I-5 and San Juan Bautista? We'll be pulling toad with a 30' MH. Looks pretty scenic on Google maps. Any major grades to consider?
Thanks!
Easy ride. No sweat. - ezgoinExplorerI've been looking at Betabel RV Park, so that will probably my choice. Thanks for feedback, on both the drive and the park!
- StarkNakedExplorer IIPacheco Pass is less than 1400 ft in elevation. It does have some steep parts, but is doable. Just went over it a few months ago for the first time. We will probably start using it more in the future on our annual trip to that area.
- JTExplorer"Nice RV Park in SJB. Betabel"
----
Just a FYI: Betabel's address is San Juan Bautista, but the RV park is not *in* the town. It's on 101 about 5 miles north of Hwy. 156 which goes another couple of miles or so off 101 into San Juan Bautista. - ValkyriebushExplorer IINo issues. Nice scenery. Nice RV Park in SJB. Betabel.$$$
- JTExplorer152 doesn't go to San Juan Bautista; the road west over from 5 goes into Gilroy and meets up with 101 there.
It's a good road, 4 lane except for a 13-mile long, 2-lane section between Casa de Fruta and Gilroy. 152 is heavily trafficked, including big trucks; it's the only viable route between the two major highways (5 and 101) in the "central" CA area.
The grades are minor, but you will need to use your gears (stay in the right lane, obviously, and don't burn your brakes!) going down heading west. It can also be pretty windy around San Luis Reservoir.
Not a big deal at all; have a good trip.
