Canceling A 10 Year Permit Part Tres

Some of you may remember that I was having a problem getting my permit canceled but it came back. I had sent it to the address that was on the web but they moved the office. I resent it to the new address. One poster told me of doing this multiple times as they kept asking for more paperwork. Well today I received a letter from SAT. They also need a copy of the new USA registration showing the new owners name. But it has to be apostiled. That is a real problem. The person whose name is on the registration has to request the Apostle . I called the SAT office and spoke to 4 different people. They would not budge. BTW: No one speaks English , the phone connection sounds like 2 Tomato Juice cans and they spoke so fast I could hardly understand anything. I will need extra BP meds today. I have contacted the buyer and hope he will help. I think I will take up drinking!

  • Mexnut: Thanks for your story. My MH is now registered in Mississippi. I called the Sec. of State and they will do the Apostile for $2.00. I think the copy of the actual registration should be bullet proof. I do not want to do this twice. But I will call them on Monday for clarification. BTW: For all those who think your TIP is linked to a passport. They found the file by using the last 5 digits of my VIN. I suspect that the database is sophisticated and will find you by multiple means.
I just reread this thread and one would think we were terrorists with an evil plot not tourists! But I forgot that terrorists just drive across km21 with no permits!

  • Moisheh, Bureaucratic Mexico has adopted the attitude of catering to the industry of having tourists fly in to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta, dump ten thousand dollars in a week and then get the hell out.

I am very much worked up to the point to ask state to demand the occupation of proposed travelers to the USA from Mexico. If they answer "gobernacion" require a ten thousand dollar refundable deposit for persons, and a ten thousand dollar refundable deposit for a motor vehicle.

    Temper Combined With Pipe Dream...
  • Moisheh,
It's a painful experience but stick with it and you'll survive. The wording of your letter is not exactly the same as the one I rec'd but I'm sure the gist is the same. I did the same as you and saw red when I first read it and thought they wanted the actual registration from the new owner or an apostile copy. After I cooled off I sent an email to them explaining that this was impossible and also phoned them to try to explain. I reached a fellow who spoke very good English and he told me they only wanted a letter on DMV letterhead confirming the trailer had been registered to another owner. I went to the DMV here and they gave me a letter which stated the following: "This will confirm that a xxxxx Travel Trailer,
serial number xxxxx, was last registered to xxxxxxx (ME) of xxxxxxx (address).
The Trailer was registered on May 20,2006 with licence number
xxxxx. The Trailer has now been registered to another individual.
xxxxxx (ME) does not have possession of the Trailer
    since August 03,2012.
I emailed a copy of the letter to my contact at Aduana to be sure that was OK and he confirmed that it would be sufficient. I then couriered the original letter to them Sept 24 (another $67 down the drain) and the permit was cancelled on Oct 2.
There was no problem with the letter being in English.
They sent out a Certificate to me by Registered mail confirming the TIP had been cancelled.
Incidentally, if you decide to go the Apostile route you may be in for a shock. The places I contacted when doing my research all spoke of fees in the $150 range.
    Buena suerte!

On edit, I thought of one more thing. Be careful of sending too many emails to them. They are answered by any one of many individuals working there, and you may end up dealing with two different people. It's difficult enough to deal with one, but dealing with two is almost impossible.
  • Mexnut: You may be correct. I will check. The new owner is a great guy and he will notarize the registration and send it to be Apostiled( I dont think that is a verb!). Here is what is in the letter:

Original o copia apostillada del documento emitido por el departmento de motores y vehiculos del Condado ( I think that is a typo?)o Estado de Union americana, en el que se hace constar que la casa rodante maraca xxxxxxxxx con de seriexxxxx se encuentra registrado a nombre de otra persona;lo anterior, en virtud de que el documento que usted vendio es el contratao de venta de la casa rodante. Then there is a bunch of nonsense about calling them if I have any questions. I can easily get the new owner to go to the DMV and get that letter. But it would be in English and they might reject the document? I think a copy of the registration might be better? Did you send them the letterhead? I can call them on Monday for clarification. It's only $2.00 for the Apostile. This should be a lesson for anyone who is selling his unit without canceling the sticker. Make sure you get that letter from your DMV when you sell. This could be difficult for Canadians . The new owner could get the document but our DMV's have strict privacy laws. I should have read the whole document but saw red and got all excited. This has not been fun. I was justb trying to followm the law. I doubt I will really need the permit canceled as I don't have any vehicles in my name that are in Mexico. But should Sonora lose the no hassle zone I would have problems. Thanks Mexnut.

Moisheh, you need to check your translation of the letter from SAT. I received the same one when I went through this last year, and it is NOT asking for a copy of the new owner's registration. I'm pretty sure the letter you rec'd says :
Original o copia Apostillada del documento emitido por el Registro de Certificados de Vehlculos de XXXXX,
Canade, en el que se especifique que la casa rodante, marca XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, se encuentra registrada a nombre de otra persona en el extranjero.
If that is what you rec'd it is asking for a letter from the DMV confirming that the vehicle has been registered to another individual. As I tried to explain in a previous response to you, they do NOT want the new owner's name, address or ANY other information about him, nor do they want a copy of his registration. They just want a letter (original or apostiled copy) on the DMV's letterhead confirming someone else has registered the vehicle.
  • You have been thru the wringer.

Have you thought about accidentally washing your pants with your passport in the pocket? OH MY it is no good anymore and destroyed.

Please Uncle Sam, may I have another?

New passport, new passport number, and now you can get a new TIP.

Just curious - what does " apostle" mean as you used it here?

Best of luck with getting this issue resolved.
