Cancelled after 13+ years
My family has been a member of Good Sam's Road Side Assistance program for over 13 years and we with a few exceptions we are satisfied with their service. Last week I received a notice of membership cancellation from Good Sam's stating my membership utilization falls outside their normal guidelines. With the exception of the past 12 months our yearly program usage over the past 13+ years has been low with no program usage during some years.
Over the past 12 months we experienced rare break downs on two separate occasions and contacted Good Sam's for assistance. I believe these two instances are the reason we are being cancelled after 13+ years of membership. I contacted Good Sam's to discuss our cancellation but was not allowed to speak with a person about the cancellation. I was told my only recourse is to write a letter to Good Sam's.
Last July, while on vacation in Colorado we became stranded in our motor home and had to spend the night on the side of the road at the top of a remote mountain pass because Good Sam's could not locate a service provider to come to our aid. Fortunately, late in the evening with the assistance of a passing law enforcement officer we located an available service company but due to the time of night and distance the service tech could not come to our aid until 10 am the next morning. The cost of the service call was $750 which we paid. Thankfully Good Sam's reimbursed us for the charges a couple of months later.
In early February of this year while driving at 9 pm on a deserted stretch of road near Angel Fire New Mexico I had mechanical issues with my automobile and became stranded 10 miles from the nearest town. I contacted Good Sam's and close to an hour later they located a service provider but their tech would not arrive for at least 2.5 hours as they were located over 80 miles away in Raton, New Mexico. I was concerned that I had to wait at least 2.5 hours as the temperature was dropping below 10 degrees and I was unable to run the heater in my car as the engine would not run. Luckily a passing motorist stopped and gave me a ride to my lodging in Angel Fire. The tow truck driver arrived almost 3 hours later and delivered my auto to me. Due to the distance I am sure that service fee must have cost at least $250.
As I said, In general I am satisfied with Good Sam's service. But now Good Sam's is cancelling me after 13+ years of membership. I guess they only value your business as long as you don't have to use their services.
