For minimal tolls try I80 to I81 to I84 to I90 (Mass Pike) to I495 to I95 into Maine. We usually get off I95 at Portland to I295 then route 1 to route 3.
Only tolls are on the short section of the Mass Pike and on I95 in New Hampshire and Maine.
