Be aware that they removed all the toll booths from the Mass Pike and are doing EZPass/license plate tolling. EZPass users get a discount and the Hampton (NH) tolls and the Maine Pike both accept EZPass.
State College PA seems to be in your 350 mile range and we stayed at this place a couple of times, right off I-80.
The suggestion of taking I-80 to I-81 to I-84 is a good one, although I-81 between Harrisburg and Scranton has historically had a lot of construction. I prefer staying on I-80 and taking US209 up the Delaware Water Gap to I-84. Very scenic.
From State College, this place near Schenectady is quite nice, right on the Mohawk River/Erie Canal.
