Ditto coolmom - definitely take US 26 to Rte 31. There's enough mountain driving in that little pass on 31 for scenery and excitement w/o busting your brakes & tranny. The whole thing is a pretty drive as well. Note that Jackson itself is pretty congested; you may want to consider the truck route through town. It will bypass the square (with the famous antler arches) but is easier for towing, especially with large rigs, than trying to negotiate a bunch of stoplights, traffic, pedestrians who are looking at the sights or window shopping & not paying attention to traffic, etc.
