Colorado Springs, Colorado to Williams, Arizona

Looking for a suggested route, 39' pusher with toad.

Thanks.

  • I-40 is 375 miles south of Colorado Springs. Are you suggesting south on I-25 to Albuquerque, then west on I-40?

  • We took the route that goes over Wolf Creek pass, Pagosa and Durango because we wanted to see those areas. We were in a 45' MH towing. It's doable and very scenic, but maybe longer then going down to 40.
  • Sure, you could go interstate all the way. See nothing. And in this case, drive further to see nothing.

    Couple of suggestions:

*Drop down to US 160 at Walsenburg and follow it west all the way beyond Tuba City, AZ, then down to Flag on 89 and on to Williams.

*Drop down to US 64 (just south of Raton) and follow it west to 160 at Teec Nos Pos, AZ; then via Tuba City to 89, down to Flag and on to Williams. You won't even see the intersection at Teec Nos Pos because the street simply changes numbers from 64 to 160 at that point.

With the exception of the stretch from the Springs down to 160/64 via I25 and the stretch from Flag to Williams on I40, that'll keep you off the boring interstates for the majority of the route.

    Great suggestions!

As a slight alternative to taking (boring) I-25 down to Walsenburg, you could take US 24 west from the Springs up through Woodland Park and go across South Park to join up with US 285. Take 285 south through Poncha Springs and over Poncha Pass (real easy one), and drop down into the San Luis Valley, staying on US 285 until it joins up with US 160 west of Alamosa at Monte Vista.

Whichever way you go, hope you have a good trip !

All great suggestions and here is one more variation -
US 24 to 285 (as suggested above) and south BUT at Alamosa stay on 285 to Antonito. Then sw on 17 over La manga Pass ( the route of the Antonita-Chama train ride ( highly recommended!!) to Chama. Then 64 west as suggested above - all the way to Tuba City, then south to Flaggstaff and west to Williams.

    Have fun!!
