- kknowltonExplorer III wouldn't recommend the Beartooth route (via Red Lodge) for anyone in a MH or towing a large trailer. JMHO.

As the post says Will be going to Colorado then on to Yellowstone through tetons and need route help
I"ll give you the way points I'd use to make that trip;
Buena Vista
Leadville
Red Cliff/Minturn
Dino National Monument
Flaming Gorge - west side
Alpine
Tetons
Simple enough - nothing hard on the drive but in September might take your Breath Away.
When you depart Go out to the North catch Chief Joseph - Red Lodge - Cody - Thermopolis - Wind River Canyon and Shoshoni. Back to Craig - Steamboat and just enjoy life till the snow comes.
Jealous - did this one year - late October - early November - best trip we ever took.
BOL, - blknomadExplorerOP I'm going next week and I'm retired so have all the time I need.
Wheeling a 36ft gasser towing a rav 4. - padredwNomadYou can follow me!:)
Here is the route we will follow:
I-25 through Colorado Springs, Denver, and Cheyenne. At Laramie take I-80 West. At Rawlins (Exit 215) take US 287 through Lander and Duboise, WY to Moran. Then North of 191. This is the route we always prefer. You will get a dramatic view of the Tetons from Togwotee Pass. We will stop there for a picnic.
Edit to say, we will actually take 287 out of Loveland but that is because we are stopping over at Estes Park. You could pick up 287 at Fort Collins. For example, take Owl Canyon Road from I-25 over to US 287. The essential thing is to be on 287 from Rawlins to Moran. - Thom02099Explorer IIWhen you're going, and what you're going in can make a difference. Also how much time is allotted for your trip? Do you need/want to get there fast, or take a more scenic route?
- 4huskersExplorerWhen are you planning on making the trip? If it's in the summer my favorite route always includes US 26/287. The drive descending Togwotee Pass in early morning as the sun bathes the Tetons is one of the most beautiful anywhere. Even if you have to go out of your way to go this way it's worth it.
