concerns about atlantic provinces

I didn't plan to offend anyone. I looked at a campground site that said they did not accept credit cards only cash, another said that propane wasn't available for motorhomes that they only had propane for small portable bottles. I just wanted to find out if this was a problem everywhere. I figure that if you don't ask you will ever no. Sorry if I cause problems for some of you.

Get serious here, folks -- you can use your credit cards virtually any place in the world. You'll soon find that the rest of the world is AHEAD, not behind. (Chip/PIN cards may actually show up in the US this year.)

The price of fuel is higher in Canada -- so just like us, they defer paying by using their cards. And it's so darn cold all the time that they use a lot more propane -- available everywhere.

Don't miss PEI and we had the best site at Twin Shores CG on Malbeque Bay. The swimming on the north shore of PEI is warm due to an eddy of the Gulf Stream. 75!! Even I got in! (And the oysters...) Other than this cg, we stayed in excellent municipal campgrounds all over the country. Bought a national parks pass early on our trip and it more than paid for itself. No hassles with our credit cards, except when one of them put a stop on it because we were moving around a lot. (And we had told them about the trip...) So better to have more than one. Don't bring citrus or fresh green veggies back into the US. Our limes and green onions got confiscated!! They weren't too interested in all of our wine, liquor, which we had bought in the US anyway...

Don't forget your Liability Insurance Card for Canada. Your insurance company can mail or Email it to you. This is a simple "better safe than sorry" thing. Have a good time and we hope to see you there this year. We are spending August in Newfoundland.

My Amex charges transaction fees and Visa does not. With Verizon I call before entering Canada and add phone service for $15/mth additional. Cell data is expensive and there is no cheap solution except to use public WiFi when you can.

Other than being more expensive it's a lot like the US. Don't forget your passports or equivalent.

What you do need to be REALLY careful with is data charges. Call your provider and see what the agreements are with Canada or you could have a eaallly bad day when the data roaming bill arrives.
