When was the last time you were stateside? 30 years ago? Debit cards have been used in the states since the early 80s. In the beginning they were used only at ATM machines to get cash. Acceptance by merchants began in the mid-80s. Canada did have them a few years prior but to say no one knows that a debit card is here is pure hogwash.
I usually go down 5-6 times a year. The wife is down there about 20 times a year.
