Don't rely on Garmin RV760 LTM GPS routes.

Have Garmin set to 40'length 13' height. I am in Newport, Oregon set Florence, Oregon address as destination. GPS sends me up 101 to 18 to Salem, OR. Then down 5 to Eugene, OR to 126 back to 101 and Florence. This is a 220 mile trip. The actual route should be down 101 to Florence,OR. 45 miles.
This is not the first time this has happened. Set to car and the proper route is displayed. There are no restrictions on 101 between Newport and Florence but the GPS shows the RV route 5 times further, what a waste.

  • Always check routes against a paper map no matter what brand of gps navigator you are using. There have been a lot of threads on this here. A few times a year you'll see some newspaper article about someone blindly following the gps instructions and finding themselves stuck out in the Mohave desert or on some obscure forest track in Oregon.
  • Same happened to me on that route, there is construction at mile post 155 and it is down to one lane
  • This routing "Feature" is not limited to Garmin. I've found it is always good to double check routes against a real map, Google maps, or other source.
  • Sometimes I'll play with the end points, trying to figure out exactly where the obstruction is.
  • Have to agree with the lousy routing info for motorhomes in general with Garmin! Quite frankly, I would have driven out of the way instead of following GPS from Oregon House, Ca to Pollock Pines, Ca mostly on Cal 49.....twisty, windy and a very narrow two lane road.
