Garmin Basecamp: exporting route

To avoid problems like that I use Mapsource and import to Base camp. Make sure you empty old waypoints, favorites, and route, trips from BC before hooking up the 2689. I find BC very poor for making back road routes.

How did you get Mapsource downloaded? The Garmin site says that Mapsource program is no longer available. I find Mapsource is a much better program than Basecamp.

Basecamp is the latest iteration of Mapsource. You might need to check your settings on the GPS. The route will change if what you plotted in Basecamp isn't allowed according to the rules on the GPS. Like if you're using Truck Routes or some such thing.

You will probably have to insert more waypoints to force a certain route. Your gps will recalculate the route to give you the fastest time.
As far as using MapSource you can google it and find downloads.

Also in BC you may need to open options and see how device transfers is set up.

Thanks all. I'm pretty good at this stuff but the Basecamp-Nuvi interface is lacking. It seems that there is no good way to plan off line and get the Nuvi to take it as is. Sure wish someone would revive Streets & Trips.

Streets & Trips had the same problem. I loved to plan on S&T then up load that file to my Garman but unless you added a whole lot of extra way points into the S&T route Garmin's GPS will re-calculate the entire route as it sees fit.

"Belgigue's" experience indicates that Basecamp uploads are altered the same way by Garmin's GPS.

"The second critical thing to know is that ALL Garmin Nuvi models will recalculate the route as soon as you try to use it. That means you have to create the route in Basecamp in such a way that it is impossible for the Nuvi to recalculate it so that it's different from the way it was programmed in Basecamp. That's what the comments above are referring to ... tricks necessary to force a route to remain the same after a Nuvi recalculates it as it was when you created it in Basecamp."

You can plan all you want, but whether the Nuvi will accept your route depends on how your Preferences are set on the Nuvi.

I have the Nuvi 465T and it has an option for "Auto" or "Truck". If you use the "Truck" then transferring a route will be changed depending on the "Truck" specifications. I thought it would be nice to input my weight, length, and height in the "Truck" section and then I could avoid roads that were inappropriate for my size. I soon gave that up when I discovered that the Nuvi constantly changed the route I transferred due to the commercial "Truck" specs. It was a good idea, but just didn't work. I changed it back to "Auto" and no longer have problems. Adding waypoints, vias, and such will not force the Nuvi to follow the route you upload if it conflicts with the settings that you're using on the Nuvi.

True Dat. I should have added that I miss planning a trip on S&T and then doing the trip with my laptop using S&T.
