I also use my Laredo mailbox and the import and delivery prices are very good. We sold our house in San Antonio this year so we needed the mailbox again. For us, well worth it. I need it for tax purposes and soon for my social security. I ordered two pairs of my favorite slacks and the charge was 100 pesos.
Try shopping on Mercadolibre as an option. I have had very good luck. - Talleyho69ModeratorThe Global Shipping price includes IVA, and any and all duties. It's the "to your hands prepaid" price.
While still in the US, we regularly bought things from China on eBay, but since we have been here, we have tried 4 different items (admittedly very cheap items) and none arrived. However, thanks to the eBay Buyer Protection Guarantee, we were immediately refunded our payment with no hassle. - moishehExplorerI just checked a few items on ebay that will ship through that program. One was a vacuum cleaner that was about$189.00. Global shipping was $107.49. A set of wireless tow lights sold for around $80.00. Global shipping was $36.95. I assume those prices included the IVA and any duty?? I did notice that the Chinese sellers will ship to other countries with ZERO shipping charges. BUT I saw something the other day where the USA is upset that China is subsidizing these sellers by not charging much postage. I have bought a few items from China and they came quickly at no charge for the shipping.
Moisheh - Talleyho69ModeratorWe used to ship all over the world using eBay's Global Shipping Program. We have already had to use it twice to send things to us here, fabulous! Each time it was $20 shipping, DHL, three days. One items we couldn't get here, and the other was much less expensive from eBay with shipping than Mercado Libre.
Shipping can be affordable, but yes, typically it is outrageous. - moishehExplorerI think some posters are confusing Duty with taxes. In Canada most items that are imported are duty free. BUT the importer has to pay either GST/PST or the combined tax. When you cross by vehicle into Mexico the franquicia is $300 per person. If you are over that amount usually the only extra fees are the IVA. There is a limit to the value of the goods. I think if it is over $1500 or maybe it is $3000 you need a broker and duty may apply. I do not see where allowing a package that is worth $100 is a big deal. The freight will be outrageous. Depending on how it is shipped it may never arrive.
Moisheh - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerFrom actual experience the duty free limit was one hundred dollars twenty years ago. The DHL driver collected taxes on the spot.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThat is -exactly- the news I was looking for :) Thank you Talleyho!
- Talleyho69ModeratorAccording to a notification I received from eBay in the last few weeks, the "de minimis" import limit for shipping to Mexico was just raised from $50 to $100, so items with a value under that will not be charged importation fees.
Here it is:
August 29, 2018
The term “de minimis” refers to the value below which goods can be shipped into a country before duties and taxes are assessed. This allows low-value shipments to cross borders with minimum effort, allowing for stronger global trade. Countries have different de minimis thresholds and the eBay Government Relations team has long advocated that countries raise their de minimis thresholds to promote trade.
We are happy to report that this week Mexico announced that it would double its de minimis threshold from $50 to $100 as part of a revised trade agreement with the U.S. This decision is a positive step forward for promoting trade and economic opportunities for small businesses. eBay believes that lowering trade barriers is critical to supporting small business growth and creating more access to goods for buyers on a global basis. We will continue to advocate for higher de minimis levels on behalf of our customers. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThanks Moisheh.
There are multiple figures. One is for tourists
The second is for residents living in the frontera area but carried in by themselves.
The third is for residents (citizens and permanent residents residing outside the border area. But carried in by themselves personally.
The fourth is for all NAFTA packages brought in by mail or commercial carrier that has to go through Mexico City Aduana even though the sender might be in Sn Diego and recipient in Tijuana. This is the one I am interested in.
Sorry about creating confusion. - moishehExplorerThe franquicia is already $300 for tourists by land.
