- fanrgsExplorerI have taken I-10 to Junction, then US 83 south. Two really nice, oak-tree shaded Texas State Park campgrounds beside rivers on that route--South Llano River SP at Junction and Garner SP north of Uvalde. We have stayed at both and highly recommend them. Garner SP was built by the CCC in the 1930's while my dad was going to Carrizo Springs High School and was his favorite Texas state park. South Llano SP's cg has a big bird blind with a multitude of feeders and water features and the fall migrant and winter bird watching is terrific.
- DougEExplorerTake the shortest route. The roads are good. Gas at Sanderson and Del Rio. I second the route by NMDriver from Del Rio to Laredo.
- NMDriverExplorerI like getting off at Van Horn and going via Marfa, Del Rio, etc. US 90, 277, and 83. If you go Ft. Stockton and 285 or use 90 from Van Horn there is a good fuel stop in Sanderson.
I would avoid San Antonio traffic although you can miss some by using the 410 or other by-pass routes. 173 from Kerrville to I-35 is good. Check with TX DOT for construction on any route you choose. - ChainwrightExplorer

Take 285 out of Ft Stockton to 90 to Laredo?
Stick with the freeways?
Not looking for adventure, had enough this week on 79, 351, 74 from Temecula to Palm Springs.
Thanks

Hmm, let me throw something your way, and it might add a few miles to your trip, but how about I-10 to I-35 (south). So ft stockton to San Antonio (I-10) then San Antonio to Laredo (I-35).
