I always found Mexican diesel to be far superior to the USA diesel. Lots of paraffin which gave better mileage and power.

Before Magna the gasoline was iffy. Sometimes your car would run OK. Other times it would knock. Often the fuel was so bad your car would blow white smoke. But the diesel was great! Before the electronic pumps the gasero could wiggle the reset lever and it would start at the current pump reading!!

And Extra, usually diluted with Won't Go, to the point where cars that could run on USA regular knocked on premium Extra.

So, today's fuel is light-years better. Ban alcohol, threaten prison for wealthy station owners who insist 800 ml is a litro-completo, and then prepare for the shock when a liter price actually goes down and I'll believe in miracles.

I can just picture you in the vehicle with a "patrullero" (higway patrol officer) at the window, really officer I have not been drinking it is the vehicle, check the exhaust pipe, really! it's had to much fuel.

I find that when using the fuel with alcohol both the RV and the toad get about 80% less miles per gallon in the city and maybe 92% on the highway and there is a lot less umph on both vehicles, plus alcohol attractts moisture.

We used to mist some water on the carburator throats while reving the engines to cnock the carbon from the pistons and valves, those were other times.

Mexico actually exports quite a bit of diesel marina to central america.

Really large city power plants use # 6 fuel oil which is thicker than 140 weight gear oil.

Certain CFE plants located adjacent to refineries are fired by pitch. Pitch hardens to like dried tree sap when cold. The problem with pitch is it can never be allowed to cool. Refineries pump it at 350F through steam heated pipes.

Grumble / gripe
Mexico's crude is "heavy" so it is rich in asphalt and roofing tar. A person might believe the surplus could be used for millions of tons of fresh asphalt for new roads and repair asphalt overlays. What a dreamer I am.

Having had two contracts one for Caltrans the 2nd for Nevada Dept of Transportation I observed how "pug mills" mounted on six wheel dump trucks repair pot holes baches.

First hot oil then asphalt to fill the hole. Run the truck duals across to tamp. Mexican crews tend to slop shovel fulls of asphalt into dirt deep potholes then run to the next asteroid crater.

But I hope we can get some French refined gasoline that has never passed near the USA. I have a joke that if the corn ethanol lobby could get away with it corn ethanol would be mandated as liquid for concrete mix. Meanwhile I pay as much or more for a big bag of frozen corn as I do for broccoli or vegetable mix.

You have to be careful with those figures. The discussion was on gasoline. Pemex hardly produces any premium fuel. They import almost all of the premium and lot of Magna as well. You are forgetting about diesel, kerosene, fuel oil and industrial products. In February 2018 they produced 164,000 barrels of gasoline. Personally I don't trust their statistics. Maybe Mex can jump in with more information.

Help me on this. Records indicate domestic production of 2.9 million barrels a day and consumption of 2.1 million barrels. Would think indicate a net gain of .8 million barrels. This does not include natural gas or coal production.

I read in the paper that Mexico has been importing Premium gas from not just the USA: Venezuala and 2 other countries. They are able to produce less than 2% of the Premium locally. alcohol gas is horrible stuff: less power, worse fuel mileage. AS well it leaves a larger carbon footprint than pure gasoline. I think that eventually Mexico will just give up on Pemex. What a shame.

For the crooked politicians in México it is a God send less kilometers per liter travelled you get to buy more fuel and then they pump less gas per liter registered at tne pump! What else is new?
