georgia camping

Hello all,
We are from florida and would like to plan a Georgia camping trip over labor day. Typically we like private spacious campsites (as I guess we all do)with water and electric. We have a 33 foot fifth wheel.
My question is, is there any place that you can camp right on the river bank, but (tricky here)that has sewer and cable tv. Ha! Am I asking too much? We love hiking and biking, beautiful settings and playing in the water with our dogs, but I would like to for once just spend some time at the end of the day watching tv and just doing nothing, as it is something, when home, I rarely get to do.
Thanks for any help,Kathy

  • Thankyou all for the wealth of information. Gave me plenty of choices! Thankyou again!
  • Hart State Park has several sites with sewer as well as water and electric that fit your needs(no cable but numerous over-the-air stations)
  • Except for the cable tv, GA. has some great COE parks that are FHU that fit the bill.

We camp in the NORTH GEORGIA - NORTH ALABAMA high country camp grounds alot.

DESOTA STATE PARK on I59 in Fort Payne AL up on the LOOKOUT MTN has just what you are looking for. Full hookups and mtn Canyon views.

Just up the road some 30 miles is another great camp site called CLOUDLAND CANYON at the Trenton GA exit off I59 also up on Lookout mountain with much of the same mtn and canyon settings. CLOUDLAND does not have full hookup however but does does water and Electric.

We actually like this camp ground better than DESOTO...

Both places have dump sites so you have a way to empty your tanks without too much effort. Our trailer is setup to run most everything off the batteries but always needs re-charged the next morning to be able to do this all over again for the next day/night camping run. This allows us to camp with our without hookups.

CABLE TV pretty hard to find in the high country camp sites of all those states in the south mountain range. We have no problem at all using our BATWING crankup antenna in OTA mode and pick up many stations in the National Broadcast System digital TV from the local towns. They transmit in full high def mode which is even better reception than the standard cable TV hookups are. I am hearing alot of the camp grounds are just now converting their cable TV hookups over to digital TV so the reception will be much improved when they do this for their cable TV.

This is a typical campground setup in Cloudland Canyon. They have the patio area setup with deck fence around the site on the WEST RIM side of the camp ground. Always a great get-away for us here. The trail down to the bottom of the deep canyon is a pretty good hike down and back. Most folks just just set around the top of the canyon and watch the people doing all the hiking haha. It is neat to observe the campground setups on the other side of the canyon rim too haha...

There are several different camp grounds along the high country of ALA GA SC NC TN and VA in the mountain areas... This is where we like to go most of the time... We watch HDTV and light up our camp site like we don't have good sense everynight where we camp. Great way to end the camping day of checking in with the kids, paying bills on-line, do some internet surfing, and keeping track of the upcoming storms etc. Used to go to sleep watching Johnny Carson back in the day...

  • Riverbend CG in Hiawassee. Also Track Rock CG in Blairsville, not on a river but very nice.
