We are planning a trip to Waterton National Park in Southwestern Alberta in Mid June.Does any one have any thoughts of whether the Highway to the Sun in Glacier National Park from East to west will be open at that time. We are thinking of a day trip even if only to the summit. The last time we drove that road was from west to east but in August. The weather here has been awesome in the BC interior but Glacier is a whole different story.Anybody have any thoughts?Thanks,Morley

As said watch the website as you never know around this part of the country. Some years earlier some years not until July. Website will have dates and pics of what they are up to as well. Waterton just had a big dunp yesterday but in general we have not had much for snow at all this year around here and a warm one to boot as most is already melted and the ice is already off the lakes in southern Alberta.

The park & ride system is nice but we noticed it looked packed to the gills most times, with people waiting at the stops. However, there is precious little parking at places you might want to stop on the way up to the pass, and even up at Logan Pass itself. If you do go up in your own vehicle, be sure to get there by 9:30 AM or so, or you may find yourself unable to get into the lot.

We were there last Sept. and really utilized the park transportation system. Park and ride up on one of the short vans to the summit. We so enjoyed the ride while not driving it. A grizzly bear came tumbling over the side mountain, and tumbled down right in front of us and continued down the other side. It was a sight! They didn't have this system when we were there back in the 80's. It is nice!

As others have said, it's nearly impossible to predict, even when they start plowing, (which is usually in April), they often have to stop due to late snow storms & avalanches.

Pretty sure the folks around the Boston area would be happy to send you their excess, to make up for your shortage. :B
