- hedgeExplorerhaven't done it yet but it shouldn't take an extra day just for that. You take a shuttle from the glacier parking lot so assuming you are stopping there anyway maybe a couple hours extra.
If you're asking if it's worth going to Jasper then absolutely, most of us locals prefer the area to Banff as Banff is too busy. - explorenorthExplorer

Has anyone done the Glacier Skywalk? Is it worth an extra day at Jasper on our way to AK?
The Skywalk is nothing special, but the Icefields/Jasper area is certainly worth a day or 3 - or 7... - Harvey51ExplorerIt may well take a day counting the lineups to park and more lineups to get on a bus. We were in the line for an hour, then decided to bail out and explore on our own. There is a large rest stop on the highway with the same view, no charge. And you don't have to stand on glass. Lots of nice creek, lake and canyon walks along the way!
The parks were crowded last year, with the highway to Lake Louise blocked after all parking was filled. With free passes for all Canadians in 2017 it will be worse. We may skip the national parks for the first time in many years. - OrionExplorerI've never been to it, but if you look at a map, it is nowhere near the glacier. The reviews are very mixed if you look them up on a site like Trip Advisor.
- Powder_pigExplorerAn extra day at Columbia Icefields is worth it. The information center at the icefields is a good one though it can be crowded. The views along the highway are as good as the skywalk so save your money for the icefield coach ride if you want a commercial activity while in the area. If you are walkers, either Parker's ridge or the Wilcox pass hikes are worthwhile.
Some of this depends on weather as the icefields seem to attract rain/snow during any month of the year and a coach ride on the glacier would be much less impressive in the cloud. - CroweExplorerI'd hang at the ice field but skip the sky walk. Line was over an hour's wait and it's expensive.
- MudChuckerExplorerWe were there in July, I agree with the following posts.

- cruiserjsExplorer"... most of us locals prefer the area to Banff as Banff is too busy." Well speak for yourself friend - not any of us other natives!! The real Banff PARK is not too busy - just get out of town and take some walks.
