I would have to agree that Raton Pass is a good introduction to mountain driving, and one of the easier ones.
We often stay at the top of the pass at an RV park that used to be called "Cedar Rail", but I think it now goes by "Raton Pass RV Park."
By either name, it is a nice place to stay and we often plan our trips to make it there by early afternoon, leaving the heat of Texas for the first really cool, clear air of the mountains.
