Heading to East Coast

This route works fine but 84 turns north for a while before reaching I87. If you don't mind paying tolls just take the Mass Tpk to I87. A shorter route is to take 84 to 684 to 287 at White Plains and the Tap Zee on to the NJ Tpk. Try to hit the Tap Zee area mid day to avoid heavy traffic. Same goes for 84 thru Danbury and Woodbury in Conn. Rush hour is dead stop in this area. I often slide thru all of this at night. Westbound the Tap Z is toll free. Weekends are usually much easier too unless all the big city folks are heading out to the country. I drive to/from fla and Boothbay every summer. Sometimes twice. And there is no sure thing when it comes to traffic. Sometimes I sail thru and other times its a mess. Good luck.

And, to the OP, note that once you are in north Jersey, I-95 heads south-west, more or less, towards Trenton and Philly, whereas the G/S Parkway goes south along the coast, and runs right into Atlantic City (well, a couple miles west of it, but certainly closer than staying on I-95 into Philly.) Then once you're finished with AC, head to Philly on the Atlantic City Expressway. Save a couple of quarters for the tolls.. :)

This is the route I take from Southern Maine whenever we travel in that direction. It's worth the extra time/mileage to me.

You haven't really towed an RV until you take your RV on the Cross Bronx Expressway, then go over the George Washington Bridge or tow your RV on the Brooklyn Queen Expressway from the LIE to the Verrazano Bridge. I've done both too many times to remember. These are once in a lifetime experiences for any RVer !!!

I was trying to make them avoid that experience!! :E Been there, done that, with RV's and equipment trailers and not fun!! I try to avoid the CBE as much as possible, but sometimes can't avoid going down for material.

Sometimes you can run down I 95 from Boston to NJ and never slow down and other times it can be stop and go. If you really want an adventure take I 95 south to the Bronx then work your way to I 278 to the Verrazano bridge 440 south and back to I 95 the New Jersey turnpike....get some sight seeing in.

The tunnels are marked no HC...but that seems to apply only to commercial vehicles.

Wrong. People in RVs and carrying propane in pick-ups have been stopped and fined.

Take the route NY RVer has suggested.

Good advice. Regarding Boston...it is generally not someplace I like to tow, or drive. Having said that....if I was going through Boston on a Sunday or on off business hours, I would use 93. The tunnels are marked no HC...but that seems to apply only to commercial vehicles. Or at least, that is my interpretation. Rte 95 goes around, and rte 495 goes further around. None of these routes offer any height issues...including the tunnels under Boston harbor.
