Solution: Don't use toll roads!
So instead eat up extra fuel that will most likely either equal or exceed the cost of the tolls. Yes, I agree they are a nuisance and expensive but it's just another cost of being an RVer.
NOPE! I avoid toll roads. I also avoid interstates most of the time. I like to travel on the primary roads (mostly called US highways). I have found that I make as good of time, my fuel consumption is roughly the same, the "ride" is slower paced and I am not as tired at the end of the day. I have yet to find the horrors that so many speak of that do not use the US highways and I have found that I am sharing these same roads with an ever increasing number of semi trucks. But I well remember driving up to southwestern NC from south FL before I-75 was built. I still run the "old" route. I've run both and generally have made similar timed runs with similar fuel use (this was over several years and several vehicle/RV configurations and heading to/from the same general location). The interstate just plumb wore me out. The "old way" (US 441) was more relaxing, even thru small towns with a big rig. Plus the country-side and little towns are much prettier on the US highways than on the interstate. I also figure my fuel $$ and groceries/meals out $$ also go farther in the small town the interstate has by-passed. While big commercial RV parks are fewer, I often stay in really nice city/county parks. Quite often for free even with hookups. Can't beat that with interstates and toll roads! But to each their own way! :D
