Have pets so were thinking of taking the 5th wheel for a long ride...Seeing as how we are in Winnipeg, MB - How far South would you have to go to be able to camp for a couple of weeks around Christmas??Boy, would it be nice to get 'stuck' in AZ until spring. Don't know how far is far enough but, my first thought would be towing the 5th wheel thru the snow and on salty roads to get there and back. Sure something I wouldn't think to do.

If I wanted to reduce the amount of snow on the roads that I crossed I'd aim more to the east where the altitudes are lower. It's impossible to predict snow this far ahead of time. I haven't seen any winter 2015 forecasts yet. And of course 'warmer' in Montana means a whole different thing than in Florida. Maybe -10F instead of -30F.BK

You never know what condition the roads are in. However, looking at 2 weeks, you proabably could make North Carolina or Tennesse. Pigeon Forge, TN is nice and has great shows as well as Dollywood lite up for Christmas. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is in the area and beautiful. We plan to make a return trip during December. I know we should not have to travel through snow as you may. Just a thought on your time and distance.

Here's a link to "Weatherbase". It shows historic weather data by month, by town within each state over many years. Temps default to "C" degrees, but you can select "F" if you wish. It's a free app. On Streets and trips, I selected Winnipeg to Tampa, FL. and exclusively expressways. Looks like a little over 2,000 miles. Even Nashville, TN averages below freezing temps and one or two days of snow in Dec. and Jan. And if it doesn't snow anywhere along your route, coming or going, finding a CG along the way that's open will be like rolling dice, hoping for a 7. If you get past all that, you still have to find a CG in Florida with an opening. Good Luck.

For route planning purposes I consider anything south of I 10 (8 in Az) south.

Id head straight south and check out Southern Texas. How does the Gulf Coast sound? But I tend to agree with the other folks, I'd leave the 5th Wheel at home and motel it.

Right on. We're in Georgia and when we talk about going "south" for the winter, people often say, "you're already south for the winter ... ask a goose." It's all relative, and in my case the "relative" is the DW. ;)

Here in Winnipeg, we call that spring. :)

Went snowmobiling a couple of times last year when it was -30C (same -30F).. I wonder what the windchill was at 60 mph? That's why they sell the fancy gear I guess... All relevant.
