When traveling in Pennsylvania, Assume, there will be road repair/construction. You are usually not disappointed.
You can check 511PA when you get closer to Penna. for road conditions.
Personally, I will go out of my way to avoid the Chicago area, unless there is something you want to see.
The traffic can get miserable.
Dropping down to I-70 as 4runnerguy mentioned, would be a good choice.
Whatever route you take, enjoy the trip.
