I-40 and I-44 in Oklahoma

Will be driving eastbound I-40 to I-44 through OK. Have a few questions.

1. In Oklahoma City, it doesn't look like taking 44 through the whole city would be a good choice. Is it easy enough to take I-40 to 35 to 44? or should I really take the John Kilpatrick Turnpike?

2. How about through Tulsa? Just stick with following the I-44 signs?

3. Are we allowed to stay the night in our RV in the service areas on the Turner and Will Rogers turnpikes?

4. Planning to just use the cash lanes. I know to be careful going through as they are narrow, but doable (based on my prior question on this forum). Looks like $11 each of the two turnpikes for 4-axles. Will I need coins and/or bills? Multiple or just one pay station for each turnpike? Will I be able to throw coins (or insert bills) from the driver's seat if cash booth is not staffed?

5. I-44 in Missouri is not a toll road, right?

Any help is very appreciated.
  • I can speak for Tulsa; was there a couple of days ago. Yes, stay on I-44. There is construction on the east side of town, but all lanes were open.

I-44 pay stations are staffed except during late night. (For late night, you will need coins.)

i-44 in Missouri is not a toll road.

Some else can tell you the best way through Oklahoma City and the answer to (3).
  • I do not think you can overnight but not positive. There is a Walmart at the Bristow exit, maybe you can stay there.

I would go 40 to 35 to 44 because I went thru OKC in March and there was construction with a backup on 44 just N of the 40/44 interchange.

    x2
  • In OKC I 40 has been rebuilt and more lanes added so just stay on I 40 to I35N to I 44. In Tulsa just follow I 44 all the way. The main toll lanes are manned 24/7 with toll road employees if you get off before the end some booth's are not manned just toss in the coins there are signs telling you what you will owe. I have spent many of nights on the toll road shut down (sleeping) until morning.
  • I would take the John Kilpatrick Turnpike. Less potential for traffic issues and the interchanges in OKC were confusing a few years back.
Have made that trip several times if you are planning just one stop it would need to be in Tucumcari if you want to stop twice then it would be Dancing Eagle Casino,$10.00 with hookups, in NM and then again in Amarillo TX
  • Great info from everybody. Thanks for all your help!
