If you wondered why they were closing the split, here is a video of bridge strikes. They are going to lower the road in that area to eliminate the strikes before someone knocks a bridge down.
They should close I-70 from border to border. I used to think OK had the worst roads, but not since we were in IN this summer.
It's pretty embarrassing. Our Governor and past Governor like to brag about the budget excess but it is pretty obvious where they saved the money. But at the same time the I70 corridor has some of the heaviest truck traffic in the country combined with 90 degree summers and salt and snow in the winters and it does take a toll. - hotpepperkidExplorer

Also another post on this forum said the road eastbound at the Indiana Ohio line is extremely rough and will break an axle or bust a tire! I-70 east of Indy is split with barricades between lanes. Cars can stay in right lane. Trucks and RV's should stay in left lane. There are signs telling you that but we saw some RV's trying to take the right lanes. Not good results!
And you were on that road when? - camperforlifeExplorerIf you wondered why they were closing the split, here is a video of bridge strikes. They are going to lower the road in that area to eliminate the strikes before someone knocks a bridge down.
- tatestExplorer IIEven coming from the west on I-70 to connect with I-69 northbound, I will take the south and east sides of 465. Partly that's habit, been doing it since before the northern part of that loop was built, and partly knowing how congested it gets with local traffic in the northen suburbs.
- grovinExplorerThat's just the kind of info we were needing...thanks again everyone for taking time out to let us know.
- camperforlifeExplorerAs stated before, you can't go straight through beginning Sept 3 if you are traveling on I70 or I65. I am guessing you are going through Indy from the North or South(I65)since you referred to 465 East and West you will want to stay just stay on 65 through town until the downtown split closes, then you will want to take 465 West. 465 is going to be busy since 70 downtown is closing.
If you are traveling I70 you will want to stay on 70 through downtown until the split closes then use 465 South. You should read my previous post I70 warning if you are headed to or coming from Ohio. - jnharleyExplorerI465 is also listed as I-74. We always go south on I-465. Most of the construction is done on that area and it is pretty easy to transit. We were just through that way on Sunday.
- grovinExplorerThanks for your feedback everyone. Appreciate all the good info.
