Just did the full length of Missouri twice in as many weeks. MO is actually in great shape. I concur that much of IL and IN are bone rattling. One partial workaround (depending on origin/destination) is US 36 across Missouri (all divided 4 lane across Missouri now). As you cross the Missouri River at Hannibal it becomes I-72. Follow that and I-74 to to catch up with I-70 in Indianapolis. Much better for traffic, alignment and road surface. Someone may piggy back on this on a way to continue East and still avoid I-70.
