I65 thru Nashville

What's the road condition and best time to go thru Nashville ,should I take the bypass or go straight thru. Tentatively would arrive Nashville around 4:00 PM Saturday,if I leave Louisiana at about 6:00AM. I 'm planning on overnighting north of Nashville .

  • Best time was about thirty years ago... :) :) It is always a mess, potty before you head through town. :)
  • There are closures of the downtown loop on weekends for the next several weekends, for bridge repair. Saturday evening is NOT the best time to try to get around, since traffic is heavy on Saturday evening anyway. I would not want to do it after a long day driving.

My advice is to overnight on a Saturday night SOUTH of Nashville, then get around EARLY (before 10 AM) Sunday.

The best and really only route you can take is:

    *I-65 to I-440 west
*west on I-440 to I-40 (this is about mile 206 on I-40)
*continue west on I-40 to mile 204 and take the exit for Briley Parkway NORTH (SR 155)
*stay on Briley Parkway until you hit I-65 on the north side of Nashville

There are some rough spots on I-440, but the other roads are in good condition. Briley Parkway is an excellent road and a true lifesaver during the closures.

Here is more information about the closures:

This route is your only way through during the road closures. It is also MUCH better anytime, than the downtown loop in a RV, which would be very unpleasant.
