  • No cruises out of Whittier or Seward in my 2016 Tour Saver! Stan Stevens out of Valdez dos have a coupon this year. Guess business must be good in Whitier and Seward these days!
  • thanks guys for your help. your imput has helped with some decisions. sincerly richard
  • You can go to the Tour Saver site and see everything that is offered.
I see most of the cruise boats no longer offer the 2 for 1 any more. In past years Whittier and Seward had discounts but do not see any now.

  • I don't recall the Tour Saver had a two for one for either of the Whittier or Seward cruises in the 2015 book. I know we used the 2007 book and it had a two for one in Whittier, Seward, and Valdez. The Tour Saver is worth checking out for what is offered each year. I agree, Williwaw is a great campground. We spend at least a week there each time.
  • In 2014 we camped at Williwaw and drove the toad to Whittier. It seems to me that there was a two for one coupon for a Whittier glacier cruise in the 2014 Alaska Tour Saver book. Good Luck!

If you do not mind dry camping, stay at Williwaw USPS campground. It is dry camping but the sites were the best we encountered while up north. And if you have the Senior Pass, the cost was half price. Not sure I would take my RV through that tunnel. It was scary enough with our dually truck.

That should, of course, be the USFS campground. ;)

It might be interesting to see what a postal service campground would be like, though. I imagine you might pay your fee, and perhaps a couple of days later you and your RV are thrust into your site at midmorning. When you are ready to leave, you put a little red flag up the night before and they come and haul you off the following day. On rare occasions an RV mysteriously disappears, or is delayed for a few weeks....
  • There isn't a lot of general parking in Whittier, if you drive the full rig through the tunnel you can either park in the large parking lot used for boats and trailers or there is a small campground right next to this lot. There are also some nice camping spots in the campgrounds along Portage Glacier road on your way to the tunnel, then you can just drive your towed through. Something to think about is that you are charged by the length and width of your vehicle to drive through the tunnel. It gets expensive fast, but the return trip is free :D

  • thanks rag from what i have read you are right on rv and tour many thanks richard
  • Not a lot of big rig parking in Whittier. We have only driven our towed.
The glacier tour out of Whittier with Major Marine is a great choice. You will see numerous glaciers and there's a good chance you will see calving action! We will probably ride with Major Marine again this summer.
