FWIW, the trip is only a couple hundred miles, so you may not need a place to stay, but if you have the chance, I second the suggestion for a stay at Land Between The Lakes NRA. It is a total gem--over 170,000 acres of federal land dedicated to just about every kind of outdoor recreation you can imagine. We've stayed at both the Piney (south end) and Hillman Ferry (north end) campgrounds, and been through the area numerous times when my sons were migrating in and out of Fort Campbell regularly. We were there just a few months ago and I can hardly wait to go back.
