Mexicosimcard.com - Anyone used them?

Hey Everyone,

I have been looking at options for cell service on our trip. In the past we have carried an AT&T GoPhone and paid about .38/minute once you include roaming & taxes.

I looked at the basic Telcel prepaid and it looks to me like it is around .35/minute for calls within Mexico and .50/minute to call the US. I have no idea if there are additional taxes on that.

While liking around I found www.mexicosimcard.com . They offer a prepaid Telcel sim card for $89 that includes 3gb data and 250 "anywhere" minutes (US & Canada included). 250 minute refills are $22.95. This looks like the best deal by far to me.

Am I missing something? Has anyone here had any experience with this outfit?

Thanks

Steve

  • We do the same as briansue, but Telcel had a plan last year if you put 200 pesos every 6 weeks or so (never did figure that part out) that let us call Canada for 5 minutes for 1.98 pesos/min. After the 5 minutes, the rate went up, but not substantially, in fact no where near 38 cents/min. I think it was called "Amigo" plan and gave us 3 free numbers in Mexico. Plus, I got a free T-shirt ! • Depends on what you need a phone for and how much you plan to use it. We got a prepaid Telcel phone and I think we put $200MX on it. We use it for calls in Mexico if needed though we rarely need a phone. We also got a Telcel Banda Ancha "stick" for our computer internet - we do not have or use any kind of "smart phone" as we do not see a need for one. If we have any need to call out of Mexico - or even some calls in Mexico - we can use Skype. There have been many posts each year on using the "banda ancha" in Mexico. You prepay minutes for so many GB of data use and then reload at an OXXO when needed. We keep the same Telcel devices from year to year but sometimes the SIM has expire and they have to put in a new one which changes our number - not a problem for us. Check the options on the Telcel website and try to find the previous posts going back over the years on this forum by searching for banda ancha.
  • We used them last year and everything worked out well. We are still working on the road and it was the easiest way for us to do business. Vincent was excellent in handling everything! We knew we were paying more for the service.....but....it proved to be worthwhile for us. We tried to do it ourselves online but found many glitches......site wouldn't,t accept credit card , etc. since it was very mandatory we receive our connections on the road........we felt it was worth it and it was expensed out to the business. Anytime we had a problem....Vincent was there to rectify it.....made the experience less stressful!
We are heading down again this year and will use them again.....well worth the extra dollars!.....and having peace of mind

  • I used the telcel sim card last year and did a pay as you go for $60 per month for 3gb of data and it also gave me some free minutes for mexico calling which was great on the iphone. When I paid for another month, it gave me more free minutes than I could ever use. Then I use internet for calling which is not good clarity, but I do limited calls back to Canada so it worked for me. I think your plans is great if you use the calling to usa or canada otherwise the one I had would save you some $$.
