Nevada in the summer?

Is Rving in Nevada during the summer months is a good idea?

  • Parts of Lake Tahoe are in NV. The Ruby Mountains/East Humboldt Range have some amazing scenery, check out Angel Lake and Lamoille Canyon. Great Basin NP gets pretty high in elevation and is pleasant up there even in the summer. Even places like Ely, at an elevation of 6500', isn't too bad in the summer, esp. in the evening. The deserts tend to cool off nicely at night. Plan your daytime excursions to visit some of the high mountain areas in the summer. An exploration of the ghost towns can be fun if you're into that sort of thing.
  • We have RV'ed in hot and cooler area's of Nevada very often from 115+ to 20 degree's(Vegas and Pahrump to Lake Tahoe and Reno). As long as your prepared for these temps, no reason not to enjoy it.

Depends where in Nevada you camp.

The campground in Great Basin NP can be a pleasant 75 at 8000 feet when it is over 100 in the valley below.

Not all of Nevada is desert and sagebrush steppe. Lake Tahoe is 1/2 in Nevada. By some criteria Nevada is the most ecologically diverse state in the country.
  • Depends on where in Nevada. Northern Nevada is pleasant in summer while southern Nevada can be hot. Summer and fall are the best months in the Reno/Tahoe area.
  • In an RV park with 2 ACs you should be okay -- after all, people DO live there. :) :) Not my choice of a place to RV......but if you have to.......
