Newfoundland tourism

Check out these ads for the island of Newfoundland. Some are filmed close to where I live. The one that shows a white house is filmed just up the road from.

  • We spent a few weeks in Newfoundland in 2012 and surely will return. A wonderful destination, with people who are the salt of the earth.

Besides, we have to take our Lab to her ancestral homeland. I've read that Labs actually came from Newfoudland and vice versa.
  • Of everywhere I have ever traveled - whether on business or for pleasure my three favorite places on this planet are Newfoundland, a small lake in northern New Hampshire (intentionally unnamed 'cause I don't want to spoil it), and, of course, our home.

While there are many miles (we hope) still ahead of us, anywhere "new" to us that we may go will have to really sparkle to beat out any of those above.

To get to Newfoundland, we particularly like the overnite ferry from North Sydney to Argentia. After supper, laying on the deck forward of the forecastle - well, on a clear night, the sky is just amazing.

We book a cabin, so it's off to bed, then the next AM it's all smiles to be back to Newfoundland (sounds like Understand - as I was politely told on our first trip there).

    Cheers.
  • I get a kick out of the subtle humour that shows up in those Newfoundland tourist ads...........such as the scene where a couple of people are walking two dogs across a field. The two dogs are a Newfoundland and a Labrador. How appropriate ?

Or the line that goes " there are more dialects spoken here than in any other place in the world ".

Or the guy wearing the cloth over his head, pretending to be a horse ? Isn't that a mummers get up ? Do they still do that on New Years, go round as mummers ?

Or " A place that has been invaded by the Dutch, the French and the English " I didn't know about the Dutch bit ?

In any case, I think that Newfoundland and Labrador does a GREAT job of advertising their unique place and culture , to the rest of the world.

I served with a number of Newfoundlanders, in the Canadian Forces, and they are great people to know, even at 3am when its pelting down rain and sleet, and we still have hours of work still to get done. Lets have a song, bye.

Great soldiers, the CF wouldn't run without them.

Beautiful!! What area are you in?
We are in southern Ontario on a street that is 90% Newfie.

I am from Northern England and when we get talking I'm as Newfie as they are we have the same accent. Those pics make me home sick, lots of tears.
We hope to be your way next summer for our 25th.
