On your way from the ferry at Port aux Basques to St. John's - in an out the bays, your wife will recognize many accents. We are told that people in those bays speak with the accents of their ancestors.

I had to chuckle. My Yorkshire accent comes and goes. However, put me with the "Newfies", as we and they call people from Newfoundland, put me with them on our street and I am back home. The accent is back in full swing, my kids can't understand me at times, especially when the "old words" are used.
