Im planning a trip to the Florida Keys and I'll be pulling my 28' travel trailer. I'll be leaving SC in the afternoon and am thinking I'll make it to somewhere between Brunswick, GA and Jacksonville before I'll need to pull over for a few hours sleep. Could anyone recommend some places off I-95 where I could pull over and get a few hours sleep before continuing on? Thanks.

Wally World at the River City Marketplace (north Jax) allows overnighting even though the shopping center has a posted sign to the contrary (easy on and off too). I see RV's there every day and it is a safe location. Be kind and spend a few dollars with the local merchants. Plenty of good dining choices there as well.

I have spent the night, along with others, at the Florida Welcome center.

A Big Wheel RV at St. Marys, GA is a nice place. I wintered there last year. They are a PPA park as well.

Is it really okay to park at a rest area to get some sleep?

We stayed at Whispering Pines in Rincon, GA. Not sure where that falls. But it was cheap, $25, I think.

On edit, I see that's a good hour earlier than you wanted to stop.

If I am getting tired , I stop at the Florida Welcome Center . If I am OK , I take I295 East around Jax to I95 and stop at the St Augustine Flying J at Exit 305 .

Signs in Florida Rest areas say three hours parking only , but ain't no one ever asked to move except around large tourist events such as Daytona 500 . I spend at least 30 nites a year in Fl. rest areas and all Fl rest areas have a security officer .

I would say it would depend on what time you were stopping and when you planned to get back on road. If I was planning on getting started anywhere around 5:30 am, I would rather go through Jax at night and stop at next rest area. St. Augustine I think. (if you are not already away from comp.)

When I'm traveling longer distances, I normally pull into a rest area sometime after midnight, just to get a few hours of sleep/rest. If you want to stop at a real campground Blythe Island campground is a nice little county park in Brunswick, Ga. I've stayed at a few times.

Maybe not just any rest area, but the Florida Welcome center has/had 24 hour security at the ones I have stop at.
