Route 31 Targhee National Forest

I'm looking for advice regarding pulling my 34' RV TT Route 31 between Alpine, WY and Victor, ID through Targhee National Forest in Idaho. I have a Ram 2500 with Cummins Diesel. But, we will be traveling with two other families with 1500 Rams pulling 24' TTers. Stouts Mountain is on this road and Pine Creek Pass. Anyone know anything about the grade?

Thank you,
Rich
  • You'll be find towing over this pass. If you have the Mountain West Directory, check to see what it says. I've got one, but not with me at the moment. We've towed over this pass and I don't remember it being bad. Definitely not like Teton Pass. We towed it once and never again!!!! Most will take Pine Creek Pass, Hwy 31, to avoid Teton Pass, going around through Alpine, then up through Hobart to get to the Tetons and Yellowstone. Pine Creek Pass is part of the Teton Scenic Byway.
  • We've towed on that route with our current setup. It's not a bad pass and by far nothing compared to Teton Pass which you don't want to take. You'll be fine with that diesel. It'll be slow going for you, but it will be fine. This is part of the Teton Scenic Byway and most coming south from Driggs and Victor, in order to avoid Teton Pass will go over Pine Creek Pass to Alpine, then up through Hobart Junction and Jackson, to get to the Tetons and Yellowstone.

    Duplicate post!!
  • I checked the Mountain Directory West for this pass and nothing is listed indicating that it is not one of the passes to be concerned about, but as I previously noted, take it easy and you'll be fine.
  • Not sure exactly your route but we went from Alpine up 26 into Idaho to West Yellowstone pulling a 26ft TT. No problems at all.
