Route from College Park, MD to Croton on Hudson, NY

HELP!

We are in need of a route we can take that will not require us to cross over the George Washington Bridge. We drove over this bridge in a small vehicle and still have nightmares. Has anyone driven on 9W? Is there another route we can take? We are leaving in the AM and would appreciate any help.

Thank you. :?

Go up 95 from College Park to 695 to 83 to Harrisburg,Pa then take 81 to 78 to I-287 in Sufferin,NY..stay on 287 over the Tap to Elmsford and take rt 9 north..which looks like the first exit off the Tap...never been on Rt9, so can't say what kinda road it is..Chuck
  • Sorry to hear about your bad experience on the GW. I'm a NYer and it's pretty much the only route out if you're going south so I'm forced to take the Cross Bronx and GW or go many miles out of my way.

Unfortunately driving in NYC requires a certain level of aggression that would be considered discourteous in other parts of the country.
  • Smart move to avoid the GWB for many reasons, one being the cost. Coming into NY from NJ with 4 axles would cost $60 for a MH & Toad. The Tappan Zee heading southbound will only cost $24.75.
  • Yes, there is no propane at Baltimore harbor tunnels. You will need to take exit 49B Baltimore Beltway Inner Loop, then back to 95 North. This is a quote from Maryland Transit: "Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) or the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895)" cannot carry in excess of 10 gallons propane. Your rv tank is larger than 10 gallons. We always take 695 Inner Loop.
  • One more question. Will we have any "Propane" Issues going this route.
  • You can take 95N to the Jersey Turnpike to the Garden State Parkway N to 287 and cross the Tappen Zee then on to 9. Tarrytown can be a little hairy if you are towing wide or long in traffic. The tolls are painful but it is the simplest straight forward way to go.
  • What kind of vehicle are you driving? I do not believe you can take anything but a car on 9 w
