  • Norsky;
    There are lots of tales like that,
    the troops at the secret camp at Bouse Ariz got sent to Europe just in time to be part of the Battle of the
    bulge.I have also camped at old camp Hale,near Vail Co where the 10th Mountain Div trained before going to Italy.My Dad was also in Yuma,but at the AAF flying B17s
    Happy trails

  • Interesting indeed. Good photos & write up.

    Funny thing. My dad liked to tell the story of his US Army service in WW II.

    Dad, a Norwegian speaking farm boy from North Dakota, was one of many selected for special service, as the original plan was to parachute these folks into Nazi occupied Norway to fight with the underground there.

    So Norway, with its mountains, snow and glaciers, was the planned destination.

    So in 1943 they sent Dad and the whole bunch to Yuma, Arizona to train. :S

    I cannot think of anyplace in the US more dislike Norway than Yuma, Arizona and the desert nearby.
  • Great pics, thanks for sharing and hope your travels are safe and fun.
  • Interesting area for sure.

    The DW's dad was a dispatcher for the Santa Fe in Needles until his retirement.
    I like the desolation of that area.

    Thanks for the pics.
  • My dad was out there; he was transferred before they left for North Africa. My uncle was in the invasion and was wounded, suffering a broken back that tormented him for the rest of his life.
