Sacramento,Ca to Fishing bridge, Yellowstone

When I use google maps to try and plan a route from Sac., CA to Fishing Bridge the planner either sends me thru the Grand Tetons or to West Yellowstone and then up into Montana and around to the east entrance to get to Fishing Bridge.
Can Fishing Bridge be reached from the West entrance?
I want to go thru the Grand Tetons on the way home.

  • You can still use the Google Maps Earth, terrain mode, and streetview, to see the roads and all their details.
  • Thanks We had thought about road closures due to snow right now and maybe that's why the app won't route me that way. I'll check out park maps as suggested. Still in planning stages. Mid to late Aug. there are still sites at Fishing Bridge. We'll see!
  • Winter road closures in Yellowstone are messing with route recommendations within the park. Pick a couple of points in the park, and see how the routes jump all over the place. It currently thinks you can't drive into the park from the west - which is probably true. But to be consistent is should block most of the other roads in the park as well. Look carefully, it shows a lot of 'road closed' red circles.

For travel in the park, use information from the park itself, not google maps (check back in the late spring.).

Fishing bridge is centrally located. If you want to see the GT first, approach from the south. If you want to shop or otherwise take advantage of the facilities in WY, approach from the west. Don't go around the park - unless the park web site tells you certain roads are closed.
  • I drove the route through Sacramento to Yellowstone West a few years ago. I recomend one way in and the other way home. Construction was awful the last 50 miles but that was three years ago. Wish I had planned time to stop in Idaho for a day.

Lucky You - get to see the Tetons coming and going - it is the shortest way..

Just feel lucky, it could have sent you through Las Vegas - now that would be bad directions. Yellowstone is where it is and to get there from where you are the shortest way is through the Tetons, what other option would you like, you could run to Denver and come up through Cody and then out through the Tetons, might take a couple of extra days but it would avoid the Tetons on the way out.

Best of Luck, and let us know what you decide,
  • yes you can access fishing bridge from west yellowstone or any of the entrances
the roads are a big figure eight.
  • IMO, you should consider going thru the Tetons on the way up. This would be the most direct route to Fishing Bridge.
Then too....The Tetons are GREAT and to see them going and coming would be an added bonus.
