- louiskathyExplorerThe logical way would be down the gorge to Pendleton over to Enterprise and then down to Jospeh, OR
But do you realize how many fires are burning out there??
If you are going into that area... at this time... be aware that there are not a lot of roads back in there. And from Enterprise north to Lewiston is a twisty two lane paved road... with switch backs that will have you hanging onto your steering wheel. Nothing steep to climb but lots of down if you don't stay on the road.
Active Fire Map - restlesswindExplorerYeah......You are right! Too many fires this year, maybe next spring.
Just left the Idaho panhandle, lots fires and smoke! I think we'll head back over to the OR coast. - pauljExplorer III looked at Inciweb, TripCheck and Joseph news, and don't see any cause for alarm. Fires in the area are under control or remote. Weather is favorable. There are no road closures.
There's nothing tricky about the main highway from the west. The highway north has a twisty river crossing near the stateline. But those deep canyons are part of the area's scenic charm. The mountains south of Joseph are scenic too, but you can't drive into wilderness. - old_guyExplorerI would take I 84 to La Grande and then over to Joseph. I know people who were just up there, you can't even see the lake it is so smokey. the tram is not running either because of the smoke
- louiskathyExplorerIf you are in Silverton right now and just looking to grab some relaxing camping for a few days... check out Fishermen's Bend ... it's 1 mile west of Mill City, OR.
It's a BLM jewel. (Your Golden Age gets you 1/2 price) FHU pull thu's in Camp Loop... on the outside sites around the loop. The inside sites are backin's and only have sewer & electric.

Have a safe trip wherever you go.
If you want to be close to the beach at the ocean, I've heard good things about Sea & Sand RV park in Depoe Bay, OR.
