On our way back from Phoenix, I asked a fellow RVer the least steep way to get back to 40E. They suggested Globe to Show Low on 60, then to Holbrook. It was raining till I got to the switchbacks with high winds and scattered snow/sleet. With the grades, being dark, and not being able to turn around anywhere by that point, I was in a state let me tell you.
Keep in mind... allow plenty of time when driving mountain areas to be able to cut your trip short when driving in bad conditions. Look at weather reports before taking off and perhaps postpone it for a day.
Also, are you comfortable on downhills with your truck? Get into low gear before you even begin going down; not in the midst of it.
Perhaps it'll get better the more you do it. Have a good one!
Thanks for the advice. Always do the weather reports for the departing and arriving areas from point to point. I am comfortable with downhills. Have crossed many grades. Switchbacks with steep grades, on the outer edge, next to a huge dropoff when it's raining, not so much. Lol Thanks so much for the advice.
